David Bertrand is a writer and film & TV professional living in Toronto, Canada. He co-founded Montreal’s Blue Sunshine Psychotronic Film Centre, and has worked for the Fantasia International Film Festival, the Just for Laughs Comedy Festival, and numerous other film & culture institutions. He contributes to Spectacular Optical, Fangoria Magazine, and other music and film publications on a very irregular basis.
Jared Case is Head of Collection Information, Research and Access for the Moving Image Department at George Eastman House, and an instructor at the L. Jeffrey Selznick School of Film Preservation. In December 2011, Jared appeared on Turner Classic Movies, interviewed by Robert Osborne, during the network’s salute to George Eastman House. He also programs the Dryden Theatre’s annual salute to Essential Film Noir, a series that combines film with scholarly guests and crime fiction authors, including Megan Abbott, Charles Benoit, Sean Chercover, Shannon Clute and Richard Edwards. He presents at film festivals and conferences across the country.
Skizz Cyzyk is a writer, artist, musician and filmmaker. He plays electric ukulele for Go Pills, and drums for The Jennifers, Garage Sale, and Mink Stole & Her Wonderful Band. His films include Freaks in Love, about the band Alice Donut, and Hit & Stay, about Vietnam-era religious activists who broke into draft boards. His current project is Icepick to the Moon, about Rev. Fred Lane and the Raudelunas arts collective.
Award-winning filmmaker and graphic artist Mike Dereniewski has been working in various forms of media for nearly 25 years. His films have screened internationally and all over the U.S. including his home base of Detroit, Michigan. He has programmed thousands of hours of music on his weekly WHFR radio show, Skrockin’ Yer Butow. In addition to his Producer/Director day job at Wayne State University, Dereniewski has helmed of his own multimedia production and services company, TQR&R Productions, since 1999.
Jim Donahue is managing editor at InformationWeek, a business technology digital magazine and website. He's been involved in publishing in one form or another for three decades. This is his second piece for Cashiers du Cinemart; his review of the peculiar After Last Season, including an interview with three of its actors, appears in CdC #17. His other writing has ranged from a memoir he ghostwrote for an athlete to a long-running (and now quite dead) blog to an essay in the Spring 2012 issue of North American Review. Heather Drain is a fringe-culture writer who has written for publications ranging from Lunchmeat to Video Watchdog. She currently writes for pop culture site extraordinaire Dangerous Minds, as well as her own site, Mondo Heather. In addition to writing, she has also appeared as a guest on "The Projection Booth" and "The Cotolo Chronicles."
Jay Gertzman has written two books about the distribution and prosecution of erotica in the U.S. Both are about restrictions on freedom of expression, the kind of talents and person character traits the erotica dealer needs, and the power of prurience in a sex-repressive culture in which there has actually been no "sexual revolution." His biography of the publisher-poet-pornographer, Samuel Roth, entitled Samuel Roth, Infamous Modernist, was published by the University Press of Florida. Gertzman is collecting information about David Goodis’s career as a writer for pulp magazines before he began writing his paperback novels.
Greg Goodsell was profiled in the book Xerox Ferox: The Wild World of the Horror Film Fanzine by John Spuznar for his many years toiling as an author in the small press. He also appears in the documentary Dad Made Dirty Movies, about Bulgarian-born softcore nudie director Stephen C. Apostolof. He appears from time to time in several publications such as Filmfax and Shock Cinema – you can mostly find him in Screem magazine.
A lifelong fan of all things horror, cult, and weird, Joshua Gravel can often be found rummaging through old video stores and used DVD sales trying to find the next obscurity to delve into. A part time projectionist, programmer for The Arkham Film Society, Josh is always looking to expose people to new and old films alike. Soon to be known only as "DOCTOR Leavold," film historian and filmmaker Andrew Leavold has spent the last ten years in and out of Manila excavating the history of Filipino pulp cinema, soon to be published as Bamboo Gods and Bionic Boys. His research formed the basis of Mark Hartley’s documentary feature Machete Maidens Unleashed! (2010), on which Leavold was also Associate Producer, and his own film The Search For Weng Weng (2013) chronicling his obsessive quest to find the life story of the 2’ 9" Filipino James Bond. Dr. Leavold also recommends the Weng Weng cocktail made from six kinds of diesel and a dash of fruit juice. Mabuhay!
Scott Lefebvre can write about whatever you want him to write about. As a hyperactive school child, the only place he was allowed to go was the public library (because when he was grounded for his outlandish behavior). Lefebvre is the author of Spooky Creepy Long Island, and a contributing author to Forrest J. Ackerman’s Anthology of the Living Dead, Fracas: A Collection of Short Friction, The Call of Lovecraft, and Cashiers du Cinemart. Better known by her Serious Horror Journalist/Rockabilly Stripper name Suspiria St. Delacroix, Mike Sullivan’s totally original, critically acclaimed articles have been compared to the styles of Tim Lucas, Joe Bob Briggs and several unknown and unpaid writers on the internet. In fact, many people have noted how closely the writing style resembles the work of all of those authors. However, she notes that it's just a coincidence. Mike feels that you should just forget about Google and stop digging around the internet so goddam much. Jesus Christ...Winner of two Rondo Awards including "Least Plagiarized Article" and "Most Dignified Cleavage in a Horror Publication," Mike’s horrible, career-destroying secret has yet to be revealed as of press time.
Calum Syers is a freelance writer, currently based in Oxford, England, where he is studying for an M.A in Film Studies at Oxford Brookes University. This is the second article he has written for Cashiers du Cinemart, and when university ends he hopes to pursue a career in film journalism and screenwriting.
