The zine bug bit me and it bit me bad. I didn’t expect that “The Revenge of Print” would lead me to diving into creation of another issue. This one came together a little oddly. I put out the call and got an overwhelming response from contributors old and new. Of all the people contributing to this issue, I probably wrote one of the shorter bits and that it was an interview almost makes it not count.
I’ve been spending a lot of time working on The Projection Booth podcast (www.projection-booth.com). It’s been going since March 2011 with one (or even two) new episodes out each week. If you know me, you should know that I put an obsessive amount of time into each one. I’ve also been slowly churning on another few books. I hope that I’ll be able to get at least one of those into your hands over the next few months.
You may notice a bit of a format change with this issue. I thought it’d be fun to make Issue 17 closer to some of my favorite film journals of old than the magazine style of previous issues.
I’m excited to bring this collection or articles to you. This issue boasts features about Filipino exploitation films, Chuck Vincent, Andy Sidaris, Gaspar Noé, Brad Dourif, and Pierre Maheu. We go behind the scenes of independent filmmaking with Vino Veritas. Writers interviewed Sid Haig, Keith Shapiro, Eli Craig, Louie Bonnano, Peter Filardi, and many more. And, don’t miss appreciations of films as diverse as After Last Season, The Touch of Her Flesh, Blood Sucking Freaks, Dream Home, and Eat My Dust.
Keep your freak flag flying,
Mike White
